One of the biggest challenges designers and architects face when working with eco-conscious homeowners is finding reliable vendors and resources to deliver genuine environmentally friendly design. Naples-based interior designers Fadia Bechara and Kira Krümm are hoping to change all that with Biohous, a new resource for home furnishings and accessories that deliver on both style and carbon footprint.

What is Biohous all about?

Kira Krümm: We see ourselves as a resource for the design community. We do not provide full interior design services. Instead, we partner with interior designers, architects, and developers, and our role is to complement their work by offering handcrafted, sustainable furniture and finishes that bring their ideas to life. Fadia Bechara: We don’t compete with their vision; we support it with expertise in production, materials, and artisan craft, making sure every project reaches its full potential.

Where are Biohous’ products made?

KK: We work with master artisans in Indonesia and other countries who use teak, rattan, stone, and natural fibers to craft pieces that feel alive.

And how do you ensure the materials to make these products are Earth-friendly?

FB: From the very start, our production focuses on legal woods and toxin-free finishes. Recycling and repurposing materials is also part of our DNA. And we avoid plastics and embrace natural materials like linen, cotton, leather, and certified wood.

Are all your pieces custom, or do you have a selection of furnishings available if a client wants a faster turnaround?

KK: Customers can choose from curated collections for quick solutions, but we specialize in custom work. We tailor each piece to match the client’s vision, whether that’s a statement dining table, bespoke lighting, or a full furniture package.

What are some of the most unusual furnishings you’ve customized?

FB: We’ve created sculptural furnishings from reclaimed teak roots, massive woven pendants, and one-of-a-kind petrified wood tables. You name it; we’ve done it.

How ambitious or complex can these pieces get?

KK: That’s up to the designer’s imagination. Our artisans thrive on challenges because that’s what makes the collaboration so exciting.

What about art?

KK: We can commission artists to create one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by our collections so that each home becomes not just furnished but curated.

What’s next for the company?

FB: We’re focused on expanding our collaborations with architects, designers, and developers who are shaping the future of sustainable living.

KK: We also plan to collaborate on select projects, creating custom pieces for residential and commercial spaces. Each of these projects will feature special designs tailored to a unique story and environment, with Biohous serving as the shared design language and curated collection.
