With showrooms in Naples and Palm Beach, Cocoon Gallery has been delighting lovers of custom design all over the state for decades, so when a new collection starts generating talk, aesthetes’ ears perk up. This fall, the buzz is all about the gallery’s new handcrafted console collection, a selection of tables made from sustainably sourced acacia wood and named after deities from Indonesian mythology.

“The new line combines an organic look and incorporates clean lines and minimalism,” says Cocoon owner Mitchell Siegel. “They are a migration to a more artistic, contemporary look that mixes organic shapes with classical elements.”

Inspired by the environment, the pieces combine interpretations of natural elements (such as river rocks) with geometric motifs to form eclectic silhouettes. At first glance, the consoles appear to be made of marble, but closer inspection reveals their actual texture to be wood. “That eye trickery is all part of their appeal,” says Siegel. “We have a proprietary, extensive finishing process that combines science and art to dry, flatten, bleach, pigment, and carve. We use epoxy for a translucent effect, occasionally mixing it with mica. This extensive and delicate process ensures quality and longevity.”

As for their ideal use? “Think of them as functional art,” says Siegel. “It’s design taken to the next level.”
