Laid-Back Luxury Sprawls in Jupiter Home

Downsizing never looked so good in this modern Loxahatchee River refuge

Set one foot inside the expansive foyer, and you know what this home in Jupiter is all about: laid-back luxury and breathtaking views of the Loxahatchee River’s sparkling waters. After living in a much larger home, Christian and Edaluisa “Ajie” Demers realized it was time to simplify and scale down from their sprawling 12,000-square-foot house.

“We don’t need a formal dining room and eight bedrooms,” explains Christian. “Instead, we made the rooms we do use together a lot bigger.”

The home was custom built for the couple and their 11-year-old daughter, Soleil. At almost 7,000-square feet, the three-bedroom, six-bathroom home was made for effortless living and outdoor entertaining—whether that means cocktails, elegant dinners, or all-day barbecues. “Soleil loves spending the day wakeboarding with her daddy,” says Ajie. “Our friends come over for kayaking, paddle boarding, or we go fishing on the boat.”

A real estate investor and realtor, Christian enlisted the talents of architect Roger Janssen, with whom he had worked on other projects. Once the plans were underway, Allison Paladino and Zita Rudd of API Design and Collections came in to specify the interior finishes and to create the overall interior design.

From the first meeting, Paladino knew she and Rudd would click with the homeowners.  “His style was out-of-the-box edgy and we love the modern aesthetic,” she says. The designers were careful to select durable finishes and fabrics that require minimum care. “All the floors are porcelain, and the outdoor furniture is powder-coated aluminum without cushions,” Rudd says.

Easy maintenance was also crucial outdoors—including a back lawn of synthetic turf, a trend many Floridians are embracing. “A garden hose for 10 minutes and I’m done,” Christian says. “Good architecture is sexy and beautiful. You don’t have to dress it up.” But Ajie sums it up best, “I feel like we’re always on vacation. In the morning, I see dolphins with their babies all the time. It makes my day!”
