Sunny Isles Beach Residence is Serene and Sophisticated

Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the Jade Signature tower in Sunny Isles Beach is known for its distinctively angled, flow-through silhouette, a feature that provides the building with water views to the east and west. It was these coveted panoramas and Pritzker-caliber architecture that would inspire designers Cristina and Monica Souza when they were hired to renovate the interiors of a 4,346-square-foot residence within the 57-story high-rise.

“The building’s fluid, organic language establishes its relationship with the ocean, which was a central element in our design,” says Cristina. “We wanted the interiors to reflect the structure’s continuity and effortless flow, so every decision, from the shades we used to the scale of the furniture, was made to enhance that connection to the water.”

To that point, the residence’s color palette is rather controlled, a neutral scheme of warm white, soft beige, and subtle green layered with natural wood accents. “The intention was to create a serene and sophisticated backdrop that would feel warm,” says Monica. “We allowed light and texture to define the spaces.”

Because the residence’s palette is so restrained, said texture became essential. The design team introduced depth through natural stone, wood, soft upholstery, and custom millwork. Underfoot, white marble in the main areas helps to unify the home (and reflects the sun and ocean throughout the day). A transition to white oak flooring in the bedrooms imparts a more intimate atmosphere. “The layering of all these different materials created richness and dimension without visual noise,” adds Monica. “Everything feels tactile yet refined.”

When it came time to choosing furniture, the designers focused on clean lines, generous proportions, and comfort. “We combined custom-designed pieces with selections from high-end brands to achieve a balance between elegance and livability,” says Cristina. “The goal was for each piece to feel sculptural and comfortable without appearing visually heavy.”

In terms of structural changes, one of the project’s most significant challenges was relocating the kitchen, which was originally positioned at the entrance to the apartment, which the owners strongly disliked. Monica and Cristina suggested a move to the west side of the residence, connecting it to the terrace. This established a much more functional and inviting layout that allowed the inclusion of a table for six within the kitchen, an idea the clients embraced wholeheartedly.

“The homeowners felt the finished residence fully reflected their vision—elegant, calm, and highly livable—so they were extremely happy with our approach,” says Monica. “For us, it was very rewarding to see how everything came together with such clarity and balance. It’s a project we are extremely proud of.”
