Ideally situated within South Florida’s scenic community of Lauderdale Harbors, this extraordinary home offers effortless access to just about any water activity one could desire from yachting to sail surfing. The homeowner considered this vibrant waterfront setting the picture-perfect location for his primary residence. But with an active, on-the-go lifestyle and no time to execute a decorating plan, his search was on for a savvy interior designer who could anticipate his individual tastes and style.
“I was grateful to be referred to this homeowner by his realtor,” interior designer Maritza Capiro says. “I worked very closely with him to create spaces that suit his lifestyle. He travels extensively both for work and for pleasure, so I was tasked with making all the design selections from tile to towels,” she says.
Capiro knew her selections for this home had to be both beautiful and practical. When the owner is in town, this is the place that family and friends gather to have fun, relax and unwind. The designer created focal points throughout the house that emphasize the homeowner’s love for entertaining and the water views outside. “Nothing in the home was selected for its trendiness,” Capiro says. “Individual pieces chosen for their unique beauty all came together to form a pleasing composition.”
The living room sets the tone for the home’s elegant interior scheme. This room instantly welcomes as its subtle neutral hues embellished with colorful accents create a warm and enchanting vibe. Continuing with a contemporary look and feel, the adjacent dining room features a custom light fixture that Capiro found from a New York Times advertisement for an upscale development in Manhattan.
In the family room, a visually impactful tile wall that houses the fireplace, television and sound system immediately captures attention. The tiles were individually selected and placed in a cascading pattern to evoke the shimmering waterfront just steps away.
To create an air of tranquility in the master bedroom, the designer strategically chose custom furnishings that shape a serene setting and provide a relaxing cocoon. “My vision for this room came from the qualities I observed in my client — strength and warmth,” Capiro says. “When I work with my clients, I like to create spaces that reflect their personality, so each new project is different while still maintaining my vision as a designer.”
