Amazonico Fuses Food and Fine Interiors

At Amazonico on Brickell, the food, vibe, and design are intentionally international

Over the top is one way to describe the design at Amazonico, Brickell’s latest restaurant-meets-nightclub concept. But that phrase misses the point. Catalan designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán’s décor is layered to say the least, but it (mostly) manages to avoid clichés. In other words: It’s over the top in all the right ways.

Rosa-Violán has had time to finesse his approach to these environments. In addition to designing all five Amazonico venues around the world, he’s also conceived the interiors for Club House at Sabina in Ibiza, The Bazaar by José Andrés locations in New York and Las Vegas, and Vesper and Maison Delano in Paris.

At Amazonico in Miami, the tastemaker has chosen to channel the restaurant’s Amazonian spirit through deep greens, volcanic stone, dark tropical woods, and woven textures, all of which allude to the fecund richness of the world’s largest rainforest. The venue’s architectural references point to the designer’s love for Latin American modernism and the work of architects Oscar Niemeyer and Lina Bo Bardi, which means floating forms, curved lines, and open-air layouts to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior environments.

All these elements speak to Rosa-Violán’s international influences, his training in London and Paris, and his jet-set life between Bilbao, Madrid, and Barcelona. Then we see the mirrored staircase that leads to the upstairs lounge, and we realize Miami has won his heart as well.
