Family Comes Together In Vibrant Bal Harbour Home

Bold Colors, Stimulating Texture Play And A Touch Of Whimsy Liven Things Up For One Young Family Ready For Fun

When principal interior designer Ivonne Ronderos and lead designer Anahi Carrillo first walked into this expansive, 7,300-square-foot home in the exclusive gated enclave of Bal Harbour Village at the northern tip of Miami Beach, the immediate thought was “very vanilla.” That was the exact opposite of the eclectic, kid-friendly modern dream house — enlivened with brilliant hues and lively patterns — homeowners Sary and Iser Rabinovitz envisioned for their family with four young children. “We have to give credit to our clients because they pushed for the boldness, and at the same time we had to work to keep the timeless approach we’re known for,” Ronderos says.

To create an effortless and warm color palette in a domicile where every room has vibrant splashes of different colors, the design team organized hues according to the sentiment they provoke. In the living area, wall molding wraps out-of-place columns that appear to support the custom, elevated bookshelf accented with a pop of yellow — a hue that elicits happiness, imagination and optimism. The design team discovered a vendor who curates books and refines them with the same color, these in white.

Fiery red and soft pink touches catch the eye in the entry, where an oversized mirror is strategically perched on one side to reflect the sitting area on the other. Pairing posh with the eclectic, the white stools beneath the mirrored console are made of paper mache but are amazingly strong enough to hold an adult. Bold black and white stripes cross the foyer ceiling to the niche where an area rug grounds the sitting space in perfect complement.

A whimsical approach styles the dining room, where sequins on the backs of reupholstered black chairs create a huge wow factor. Velvet seats exude luxury but also withstand spills. Organization is key in the kitchen, as the wife loves to cook. Geometry takes precedence with an interfacing of glass, stainless steel and brilliant white rectangular surfaces that continue the fluidity found throughout the project.

Mixing patterns and shapes in the family room makes for fun and relaxation. Dimensionally designed, a custom entertainment unit lines the wall with plenty of floating cabinetry for games, toys and much-needed storage. “It is the perfect size for the room’s space,” Carrillo says.

Though the master bedroom purposely deviates with a serene dark-gray palette, a white faux-fur bench and the stunning beaded crystal chandelier make quite the statement. Blackout draperies in Romo’s floral print pull open to reveal the tropical views. In the master bath, the designers added greenery and stylized art to the private space’s streamlined feel.

The homeowners wanted special areas for the kids and the design team delivered with rooms ready for years of adventures. Creating something fun and youthful,  yet modern and functional, this central hub of the home encompasses the children’s spaces and an office for the wife’s creative endeavors.

Using atypical materials, a lively color palette and texture play, the designers were able to give the homeowners exactly what they asked for and more. “I love it. My favorite rooms are the kitchen and family room, where we are all together in the same space,” Sary says. From wall to wall, this home is filled with innovation and exciting details that are just right for this family.
