Traditional/Transitional Bar
Cocktail Hour
“Inspired by a trip to New Orleans, our Winter Springs clients wanted to convert their formal dining room into a moody parlor room with a speakeasy vibe,” says designer Ashley Sheaffer. “We began by designing a custom bar with lighted glass cabinetry and added some aged mirrors as the backdrop. To provide the space needed for the bar’s built-in cabinetry, we pushed back the wall that the room shares with the laundry room behind it. Next came inviting saddle-brown leather chairs, timeless moldings, sparkling accents, and a rich, dark paint everywhere.”
Traditional/Transitional Kitchen
Kitchen Class
“As we step into the kitchen of this Palm Beach Gardens home, we witness the bold and unique custom color cabinetry, which is perfectly complemented by the porcelain Calacatta countertops and brushed gold accents,” says designer Jennifer Lynn. “The modern organic design is evident in the custom plaster hood and the unique floating shelf with LED lighting, which adds a touch of elegance to the space.”
Traditional/Transitional Dining Room
Dinner Time
“From a residence in Amelia Island, this dining room is part of a massive space that became the living, dining, and kitchen areas,” says designer Robyn Branch. “We installed ceiling windows with no uppers so we wouldn’t disturb the water views and to make the dining space feel like a comfortable breakfast room.”
Contemporary Kitchen
Perfect Recipe
“They say the kitchen is the heart of a home, and in this Coconut Grove residence, that sentiment is fully embraced,” says designer Bea Pila. “Every material element has been thoughtfully selected to align seamlessly with the overall design concept, recognizing the kitchen as the central protagonist of the space. The cabinets are a harmonious blend of warmth and drama, skillfully combining gunmetal on the island, light oak for the base cabinets, and ebonized oak on the tall units. The custom hood serves as a reminder of the elemental and comforting nature of fire and the hearth in a kitchen. The reclaimed wood table invites a sense of enjoyment and communal dining, complemented by durable quartzite surfaces. Finishing touches include a glazed brick backsplash, clerestory windows, and a hand-trussed ceiling with suspended up- and down-lighting, adding the perfect balance of character and illumination.”
Restoration/Renovation
Make it New
“The challenges of this Sarasota home renovation were extensive to say the least,” says designer Tracee Murphy. “Our ‘after’ approach is best illustrated by the kitchen. Here, the addition of corner sliding doors to open the views to the backyard and the addition of state-of-the-art appliances made it an entertainer’s dream. Open shelving above the cooktop area paired with book-matched stone creates a dramatic focal point, while the mixed finishes in cabinetry and lighting enhance the overall organic feel.”
Outdoor Kitchen
Biophilic Connection
“Taking some cues from the homeowners’ trip to Greece, the outdoor kitchen in this Anna Maria Island vacation home was styled with sustainability in mind,” says designer Laura Freeman. “The concrete counter tops and smooth white stucco were perfect partners for the leftover ipe pieces that were used for the cabinet doors, and extra cement tiles from one of the bathrooms provided a fun backsplash. Custom-stained local cypress injects island vibes in the ceiling. The custom-designed wood-burning pizza oven required a structural engineer to ensure the base wouldn’t buckle under the weight of its 1,200-pound dome. Planters with fresh herbs at the pizza counter offer a fresh garnish for pies right out of the oven.”
