“Luxe Glam” Windermere Home is Pretty in Pink

A mix of femininity and functionality gives this family home a uniquely luxe livability

1725

When Hugh and Margaret Reid purchased their new, semi-custom-built home in the Casabella neighborhood of Windermere, Margaret, who was new to the area, went online to locate an interior designer to help realize her vision for the 6,852 square-foot space. “Every design website I saw was very classic and what I would call ‘safe,’” she recalls. But when she clicked on the photos of the work of Christina Marie Kairis of Tina Marie Interior Design, she knew she’d found a match.

“Her designs were modern but with a little bit of glamour, and that’s exactly what I was looking for,” says Margaret. With a husband and two teenage sons at home, Kairis perfectly understood Margaret’s need for touches of pink and metallic to add femininity to the otherwise neutral color palette (“because I’m a boy mom,” Margaret jokes), but also to maintain a classic elegance that wouldn’t appear dated in a decade.

Sophisticated glamour aside, the home also had to function as a comfortable crash pad for the family and the boys’ friends, especially during the pandemic that forced everyone to live, play and work in close quarters. “I told (Kairis) I wanted people to feel comfortable in the home,” Margaret says. Part of accomplishing that mission meant turning one of the seven bedrooms into a movie room and another one into a study.

To create a “luxe glam” atmosphere, Kairis used velvet-covered furnishings—some in shades of blush and pink. Deep sectionals invite relaxation and keep things cozy, and easy-care finishes make it all family friendly. Properly scaled furniture and floor-to-ceiling drapes help visually reduce the large rooms into more intimate spaces, while massive crystal chandeliers in the formal living room and dining room add that extra bit of sparkle, Kairis notes.

Kairis’ clever use of neutral textures, including painted silver silk on the walls of the powder room, heavy velvet drapes in the master bedroom and beaded wallpaper in the living room bar, provide a visually interesting background for the striking lighting and art. The end result, she says, is a home that “the family can live in, but that is still elegant.”
