With its lush landscapes and stately properties linked by a series of waterways, the Moorings continues to be one of the most highly sought after neighborhoods in Naples. The interior design team of Laura Parsons and Liz Brown created the interiors for this spectacular 6,500-square-foot, British West Indies-style home built by J.S. Coleman. “We loved that the owners knew exactly what they wanted and were thoroughly engaged in the design process,” Parsons says.
In the market for a complete change, the semi-retired couple brought nothing with them from their former residence, a condominium imbued with heavy Mediterranean decor. They were seeking clean, contemporary interiors to fill their airy new home. Among the elements Parsons and Brown incorporated into the design were original paintings acquired from the Gardner Colby Gallery in Naples. “Pairing art with interiors is one of our signature styles — we like to do this when the client is open to it,” Parsons says.
The foyer leads to the elegant great room, where the design team struck a balance between high-end, functional furnishings and a contemporary clean look. An A. Rudin sectional sofa covered in Romo fabric, surrounds a pearlescent wood cocktail table topped with a frosted glass insert from Bradley Furniture. Setting the tone, a wool-and-silk area rug from Designer’s Rug Center is likened to a work of art. “It’s very abstract and soft to the touch,” Parsons says. The inside extends outdoors as Harlequin draperies frame views of the sparkling pool and lushly landscaped grounds.
The pristine blue-and-white kitchen conveys a seaside motif. The design team selected Charles Stewart’s counter stools to add a splash of coastal blue. Covered in lustrous Edelman leather, they are perfect for elegant yet informal dining around the marble-topped breakfast island.
The adjacent dining room overlooks the loggia and pool, which adds reflective blue tints to an otherwise monochromatic palette. An oval, pedestal-based Julian Chichester dining table is crafted from European oak. “Because the space is so linear, the elliptical shape of the table softens the space,” Parsons says. Surrounding the table are Jessica Charles dining chairs that feature Mid-century modern lines complemented by upholstery in a retro bouclé fabric from Mark Alexander.
White, marble-veined shower walls spill seamlessly into marble flooring in the elegant master bath. A large picture window overlooks the inviting tub and ensures privacy with its lush foliage.
Just steps into the tranquil master bedroom, a custom headboard and footboard, clad in a Romo textile, is flanked by Barbara Barry’s cherry box-on-chest bedside tables. Donghia’s hand-painted, batik print fabric in lavender and gray tones drape French doors that lead out to the pool area. “The draperies keep the palette tranquil and muted,” Brown says. The room’s finishing touch is artist Doug Foltz’s linen on canvas seascape above the bed. “The painting lends the room a feeling of order and calm,” Parsons says.
The couple loves to slip outdoors for a morning dip in the pool or relax in the spacious loggia outfitted with wicker armchairs, and a sectional sofa enhanced with scattered Hodsoll McKenzie and Romo accent pillows.
By engaging in every decision along the way, the owners’ flexible approach to design contributed to a smoothly run project. “They were open to a young aesthetic … which made for a fun rewarding project,” Brown says.
